The exhibition titled “Hacked Me in Intimacy” focuses on the ideas of compromise, submission, and conformity, linked to the people’s struggles with the discourse of current systems. These systems constitute the imposition of society, media and social networks, the monitoring systems of the city, cultural and economic discourses and the hierarchical orders in art industries which all impact on tiny details of everyday life. Regarding the prism of subject-city-discourse, the concept of this exhibition indicates the artists’ everyday experience as both city dwellers and people work for cultural industries and their personal and emotional interpretations of what remains of their daily experience in today’s Istanbul.

Richard Niessen & Esther de Vries

ARK Kultur is pleased to present the exhibition of Richard Niessen & Esther de Vries which is organised by Grafist 17, International Graphic Designer Exhibitions.

Since graduating from the Gerrit Rietveld Academy in 1996, Richard Niessen works on a body of work with a strong preference for print, graphics and music, with an ever-expanding vocubalaire of (homemade) letters, sign systems and ornaments, also described as “typographic masonry”. After graduating from the Gerrit Rietveld Academy in 1998, Esther de Vries specialises in graphic and book design and her interests have developed in the more spacious areas of design, such as textile-, exhibition- and set design for lectures, festivals. From 2007 the artists run together the studio Niessen & de Vries.

Abstract through Function

ARK Kultur, after the new institutional regulation with regard to implement the projects which are based on the conjunction of contemporary art with design and architecture, is hosting the first exhibition of the works of Yılmaz Zenger.

The exhibition called “Abstract through Function” offers a selection of creative and material-oriented features of Zenger’s productions in relation to his varied professions: industrial designer, architect, sculptor and teacher. In accordance with the different conceptual frameworks, Zenger’s works of design and sculpture which are produced with the different materials and production methods are come together in two categories of sculpted furniture and sculpture vested.
